FAQs about my application
To view the answer click on the question:
-
How long will the selection process take?
-
Expect a successful application process to take at least six (6) months from date of application. This is in part due to the extensive security and background checking involved.
-
Can I tell my family and friends about my application to join ASIO?
-
You must maintain confidentiality and limit the number of people you inform of your ASIO application. Widespread knowledge may be detrimental to the success of your application. Reasons for this confidentiality will be made clear at interviews. Until then, if you have any questions, please contact Recruitment on 02 6257 4916.
-
I have dual Australian-foreign citizenship. Will I be required to relinquish my foreign citizenship?
-
All applicants must have Australian citizenship. Employees of ASIO may have dual Australian-foreign citizenship. However, it is a condition of employment you do not use your foreign citizenship (including any foreign passport you may hold) for the period of your employment with ASIO.
-
What are you looking for in an applicant?
-
This will depend on the role advertised. As a whole, we seek employees with different backgrounds and skills. We are a professional and supportive organisation. Therefore, we seek employees with strong personal drive, work ethic and team skills.
-
May I receive feedback on my application (successful or unsuccessful)?
-
Due to the volume of applications and national security sensitivities, we cannot provide feedback on your application. It can be said, if your application is unsuccessful, it was not as competitive as others.
-
Can I transfer to ASIO from my current job in the APS, Defence Forces or Police?
-
No. There is no arrangement for you to transfer to ASIO. However, if you are joining ASIO from a government department, you may be eligible to transfer your leave entitlements.
