Where can I get more information about ASIO and about a particular job?

You can get general information by reading ASIO's Annual Report to Parliament, the ASIO Corporate Plan and the ASIO Act 1979. These documents are in the Publications area of this web site, in major reference libraries and for sale in Australian Government Info Shops in each capital city.
Information about different roles in the Organisation may be found on our Careers site. Each vacancy advertisement will also provide you with specific information about the role. If you still require additional information please contact a Recruitment Officer on 02 6257 4916.

Where are your roles located?

The majority of roles are based in Canberra. Any exceptions will be noted in advertisements. Applicants for the Intelligence Development Program should note the majority of training is based in Canberra with subsequent postings interstate.

Where are your offices?

ASIO's Central Office is located adjacent to the Defence Department's Russell Offices in Canberra. ASIO also has offices in all State and Territory capitals.

Do you offer relocation assistance?

Yes, if you are required to move to Canberra. If you are successful we will relocate you, your immediate family and your possessions.

Will I be required to travel interstate or overseas?

Depending on the role you are fulfilling, the requirement may be more than others. Travel may be required at short notice. Collection Officers, Intelligence Analysts, Surveillance Officers, Intelligence Training Officers, some Technical Officers and Recruitment Officers can expect travel in these roles.

Do you have any undergraduate traineeships?

No. We do not sponsor people to complete their studies as a full-time student. However, you could continue your studies on a part-time basis while working full-time with ASIO. All vacant positions advertised are open to undergraduates to apply if they feel sufficiently qualified.

Is ASIO work dangerous? Will I be required to carry a firearm?

As a Commonwealth employer, ASIO has the responsibility to ensure that we provide a safe work environment and that hazards and risks of injury are minimised. ASIO employees do NOT carry firearms.
