Conditions of service

ASIO staff are employed under the ASIO Act 1979. However, ASIO’s conditions of service are similar to those of the Australian Public Service (APS).

Permanent staff will be appointed on probation in most cases.

All staff except casual staff are entitled to benefits including four weeks annual leave, cumulative paid personal (sick and carer's) leave, long service leave and flexible working hours (for those below Executive Officer level) although a qualifying period applies to temporary staff. Casual staff are paid a loading of 15 per cent on top of their salary in lieu of leave entitlements.

Salary packaging arrangements are available to staff.

All staff have access to a comprehensive superannuation scheme although temporary and casual staff must be engaged for a minimum period of three months.

Salary is paid fortnightly, directly to a nominated bank account.
