Threat Environment

Australia is at HIGH level of alert.

Australia has a current threat level of PROBABLE.

The national terrorism threat level for Australia is PROBABLE. Credible intelligence indicates that individuals or groups have developed both the intent and capability to conduct a terrorist attack in Australia.

The public should continue to exercise caution and report any suspicious incidents to the National Security Hotline by calling 1800 1234 00. Life threatening situations should be reported to the Police by calling Triple Zero (000).

National Terrorism Threat Advisory System

The new national terrorism threat advisory system was launched by the Attorney-General, Senator the Hon George Brandis QC, on 26 November 2015. The system provides five alert levels – Certain, Expected, Probable, Possible and Not Expected.

The current threat level of PROBABLE corresponds with the previous public alert level of HIGH.
